Eulogies Continue for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
Well beyond 14 days after the tragic deaths of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the duo.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he finally felt prepared to express about his profound loss.
"Adequate time has gone by that I can finally express my sorrow into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his initial encounter with Reiner left him smitten. "When we commenced passing more hours together I realized this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the film, remarking that he doesn't recollect "a single day without mirth".
"This story is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the perfect person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "Asserting that they were a incredible duo would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I think of you." He finished with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Colleague and Comrade
In a different piece, revered director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked beautifully with the cast, and he grasped the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese noted.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Withheld
Recently, a Los Angeles court official decided to prevent the publication of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the LAPD.
A judicial mandate put a security hold on the investigation to limit the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" connected to the ongoing investigation.
The coroner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the result of foul play, with a public database noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Aftermath and Reactions
Following the deaths, public personalities shared varying reactions.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, offering divisive statements that were broadly criticized by many public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his voice to the detractors recently. Talking on his podcast, Rogan characterized the remarks as "disappointing" and implied they demonstrated a troubling deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan concluded by remarking that an adviser ought to have intervened when the impulse to comment on the tragedy was made.
