The British player advanced to round three in three of the four major tournaments this year.

The British tennis star Emma Raducanu will not compete in her final two events of the year due to a medical condition she has been battling over the past 10 days.

At 22 years old was due to play in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but chose to travel back to regain her health before starting her preparations for 2026.

Those preparations will involve coach Francisco Roig, as both individuals have decided to continue collaborating again next season.

The tennis professional required blood pressure checks during her first-round match versus Ann Li in Wuhan and retired when losing 6-1 4-1 on a very muggy occasion.

She again required a visit from the doctor at this week's Ningbo Open, where she was defeated in three sets to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin in the first round.

Her movement was noticeably restricted in the deciding set against Zhu due to the lower back problem that has been a concern during parts of the season.

Such performances meant an encouraging season, in which Raducanu rose into the international top 30 for the first time since her previous ranking, ended with three successive defeats.

The athlete was close to victory with three match points then was defeated by Pegula in the third stage in the Beijing tournament last month.

The player achieved 28 matches this year and advanced to the semis in Washington, but her most impressive week was at March's Miami Open.

The British number one advanced to the quarters of a premier WTA event, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro on the way before losing in three sets to fourth-ranked Pegula.

Her coach was trainer Mark Petchey between Miami and Wimbledon, with Roig taking over in time for the US Open.

The initial agreement with the former trainer of Nadal was through the season's conclusion but the partnership will continue, with a training session scheduled late this year.

Raducanu told that a three-day test period with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as the meeting was kept under wraps.

She came very close to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at their first tournament together in Cincinnati in August.

Roig was also with Raducanu in New York, where she made the third stage prior to losing to 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
