The Details Known Concerning the Victims of the Bondi Beach Terror Attack

A minimum of 16 individuals were killed and in excess of 40 were hurt when gunmen shot at a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident local police are describing as a act of terrorism.

According to the most recent information, authorities have stated the number of fatalities remains at 16, which includes one of the alleged attackers. Furthermore, 42 injured people were admitted to hospital.

The victims have not yet been publicly named, but police believe their ages range from 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.

Described as a father-of-five, he served as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and friends spoke of him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a relative remarked.

Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.

She recounted the moments leading up to the attack, explaining they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.

The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had later relocated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

Publicly, the Foreign Minister declared that France stood with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the statement continued.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, according to police reports.

One Israeli Citizen

An Israeli citizen was among those killed during the attack, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

From the 42 people transported to hospitals, many are still receiving treatment, with a number in critical condition. The injured comprise two police officers who attended the scene.

A wounded man is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the gunmen. Called a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was hurt and is receiving treatment in hospital.

He wrote, he described the scene as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He said he felt it was a “miracle” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the shooting. He told reporters he listened to “dozens and dozens” of shots.

“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
