The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
