The Two Fatalities Named in the Ivy League School Shooting as Law Enforcement Press On With Search for Perpetrator.

Two students who were killed in the recent tragic incident at Brown University were being remembered Monday – as a manhunt for their killer persisted following the release by local law enforcement of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. Karoline Leavitt also shared condolences on social media, remarking: “Words cannot express. Keeping in mind her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.

Umurzokov’s identity was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.

The Shooting Incident

Nine more persons were hurt in the weekend shooting in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “This will probably generate new worry for our city”.

The shooter began shooting inside a lecture hall in the engineering facility on Saturday, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a law enforcement official informed the media outlet.

Law enforcement that entered the hotel found a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the suspect was detained, according to reports.

Condition of the Injured

Among those wounded, one student was allowed to go home, stated Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private K-12 school in the city of Durham, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Further Tributes

Cook was honored at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only in her youth... but at Brown she was an incredible light in that specific location as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the club. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she aided her club and peers,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a message. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Mr Umurzokov’s family, loved ones, and fellow students and mourn the loss of his potential.”
