'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Loved Ones of Missing Teens Await Answers After Ski Resort Blaze
The loved ones of teens unaccounted for after a devastating fire at a venue in a Switzerland's ski resort are facing an agonising wait for confirmed information and requesting clues about their family members publicly.
The fire engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of January 1st. Circulated footage show the ceiling catching alight as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Authorities have warned that it could take considerable time to formally name the those who perished of the disaster, which resulted in the death of numerous partygoers and injured another over a hundred. Officials noted on Friday that the majority of the injured have been identified, with work continuing to identify the final individuals.
In the interim, families and friends have been using the internet to request clues about their friends who were present at the venue that fateful night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are currently unknown, according to an heartfelt request from his mother.
The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, told a local newspaper that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but was unsuccessful.
"I'm living a nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. It's terrible," she told the paper.
She added that some of his peers had been discovered with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian government has said that six of its nationals have not been located.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage junior golfer, originally from Italy but now living in Dubai.
The national sporting body has stated that he is dead, without mentioning the tragedy, honoring a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and true sportsmanship."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An representative has stated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His parent said that he had been on vacation but had gone out with friends and found himself at the venue.
"Someone with him said they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he couldn't see him anymore," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his educators commented, "I've always been struck by his kindness and smile, combined with great maturity. Every time ask if get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to reports.
Her brother has shared an urgent request online, saying the relatives has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the case.
